Job summary

The successful candidate will facilitate the development of DNA-based cancer vaccines prior to their entry into Product Development activities. The candidate must have a solid foundation in core laboratory skills such as aseptic technique, primary tissue cell culture, pipetting µL and mL volumes, and record keeping. The candidate will be required to work independently and with other members of the group. The candidate should be able to effectively multi-task and excel in a fluid work environment. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in immunological assays such as ELISA, ELISpot, or flow cytometry and experience with rodent animal models. Strong and effective mathematic and communication skills - both verbal and written - are imperative.

The individual will work with Scientists and Research Associates in the Immuno-Oncology group to complete projects characterizing the immune responses induced by potential therapeutic vaccine candidates under the supervision of the Senior Scientist Immuno-Oncology group lead.

Essential job functions and duties

  • Assist in performing of a variety of immunological assays including ELISA, ELISpot, Flow Cytometry, Western blotting and tissue culture.
  • Experimental animal handling, including treatments and tissue collection.
  • Isolation of PBMCs from Non-Human Primate blood
  • Excellent written/oral communication skills, documentation and record keeping are essential
  • Ability to work independently under the direction of Immuno-Oncology group members
  • General lab duties such as reagents prep, stocking of supplies, cleaning, shipping and receiving
  • Adhere to Corporate policies and SOPs
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum requirements

  • BS in biological sciences, preferably in immunology or cell biology
  • Background in cancer biology, immunology, mouse tumor models is preferred
  • One to two years of research experience within an academic or industry laboratory
  • Willingness to work with rodent experimental models
  • Experience with aseptic technique and tissue culture
  • Excellent written/oral communication skills, documentation and record keeping are essential
  • Strong experimental mathematical skills as applied to biological assays
  • Competency with multi-channel and stand pipetting
  • Ability to work independently and within a group
  • Willing to occasionally work non-traditional hours to complete experimental tasks as needed
  • Willing to drive between different work locations within San Diego
