Job summary

The Senior Facilities Technician performs basic facilities maintenance tasks that include electrical, plumbing, HVAC, preventive maintenance, drywall repairs, painting, carpentry and other related activities. The Technician troubleshoots and repairs typical facilities related equipment and is the point-person for facilities activities for a 30,000 square foot R&D facility.

Essential job functions and duties

  • Perform basic maintenance tasks for the facility, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, drywall repairs, painting, carpentry, and other related tasks.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain facilities related equipment.
  • Coordinate and monitor outside vendors performing facility and maintenance services.
  • Respond to facilities and maintenance requests and inquiries from employees and department heads.
  • Assist with organizing and prioritizing service requests and general maintenance tasks.
  • Actively maintain all work requests and ensure all requests are completed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain and operate building HVAC control systems.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of the facility and equipment on a weekly basis and maintain logs of building walkthroughs.
  • Ensure regular facility safety inspections are performed and any findings are reported to the safety compliance officer and the department supervisor.
  • Perform monthly OSHA safety checks as required on the SOPs and PM guidelines.
  • Thoroughly inspect all hallways and walk ways between office and cubicles for hazards.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Maintain historical files of service and maintenance on all equipment.
  • Perform special projects and other related duties as required.

Minimum requirements

  • High School diploma or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been attained
  • 5-8 years of experience in laboratory/operations/maintenance
  • Prior experience and in-depth knowledge and understanding of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)
  • Experience with operating, maintaining and working in cleanrooms
  • Hands on experience with laboratory and pharmaceutical production equipment (autoclave, incubators, water bath, BSC’s, vacuums, pumps, etc.)
  • Prior hands on experience with electrical, plumbing, HVAC and carpentry.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Self-motivated and capable of taking initiative and working independently
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to use tact and diplomacy
  • Knowledge of Building Management systems
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, as builds, SOPs, operating maintenance instructions, safety rules and technical manuals
